Woman decorating her houseHave you been struggling with finding the right Exterior Paint colors to paint your home? If so, you already know how frustrating it can be to figure out which colors will work best.

It’s one of the most important decisions you will make. The color of your home is one of the first things people will notice when they see it. Making the right choice can greatly increase your home’s curb appeal.

Painting your home is a big project that has a permanent impact on the look of your home. Because of this, it’s important to make sure you make the right decision. This post will help you make the best decision for painting your home.

The Style of your Home

One of the most important things to consider is the style of your home’s architecture. Different types of architectural structures look better with certain colors. If you pick the wrong one, it could make your home look tacky.

Homes that have a more historical design tend to fare better in their original color schemes. If you own a historic home, you shouldn’t stray too far from the original theme.

Colonial Style

Colonial style homes are typically not too colorful on the exterior. You should go for a more simpler type of color scheme if you have a colonial style home. Usually, they use a one color for the trim with another color added as an accent. With a brick chimney and brick foundation, they only have about 3 colors .

Victorian

Victorian style home are much more colorful than their colonial counterparts. They could have up to six or more different colors. Using many different colors can be quite complicated and hard to do if you’re not a professional. You should consider hiring a professional if this is the case.

Choose the Right Shades

When choosing Exterior Paint for your home, it’s important to make sure that you are using the right shades. When you do this, it makes it easier to create the right color scheme for your home.

There are three parts to an exterior scheme. These themes are:

  • Field color
  • Accent color
  • Trim color

Field color is the dominant color. It’s the most prevalent color in the theme. Accent colors are used on some of the smaller areas of the exterior. They include doors, shutters, etc. Trim colors are used for edgings, door casings, etc.

Your trim and accent colors should be the antithesis of your field color. If the most prominent color is a light color, the trim color should be darker. As long as you don’t overdo this, it will come out fine.

Do A “Test Run”

Before committing to a particular color scheme, you should try it out first. Get a small amount of the paints you intend to use.

Paint a few small areas with the colors you would like to try out. Make sure you do this in both areas that are shaded and areas that are fully exposed to sunlight. That way, you will be able to see what your house will look like in various types of lighting.

Look at your home during the day and at night. If the colors you are using look good in both types of light, then you’ve got a winner!

Trying to find the right paints for your home can be challenging. While it can be done on your own, it’s easier and more effective to hire a professional whose expertise can ensure that your house looks as great as possible.
